WISDOM DEPOT

A Daily Devotional from the Book of Proverbs

Man proposes,

But God disposes.

Proverbs19: 21 TLB

Many are the plans in a man's heart,

But it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Proverbs19: 21

Do you know what God’s purpose for your life is?  One of my heroes in the ministry is the late Rev. Kenneth E. Hagin.  I once heard him say that Jesus appeared to him in a vision and, among other things, said, “Many people live and die without ever finding their purpose for living.”  Then he went on to say that after he had been in the ministry and a pastor for thirteen years, the Lord said to him, “You are now ready to begin the first phase of your ministry”.

I thought that was the most amazing thing I had ever heard until the Lord spoke to me after I had served twenty-seven years in the ministry, to go to the Navajo Indian Nation and serve the Lord there as a missionary.  Among other things the Lord told me was that everything I have ever learned from Bible College, from my numerous prestigious mentors, twenty seven years of experience, was merely preparation for my real purpose in life:  That is to build a large Navajo congregation whose church would be a training center for raising up leaders to reach the other 585 Indian tribes in America.

I have now spent nine years in the pursuit of that purpose.  It is has been an awesome experience.  Success has come easily to me, I have had the most fun I have ever had in my life, and the reward in terms of personal satisfaction is indescribable.

When you find and pursue God’s purpose for your life, you enjoy the maximum results with a minimum of effort.  Successful creative ideas flow easily from the imagination.  Finances miraculously appear from the most unexpected sources.

Today’s proverb reminds us that as human beings we have many plans and pursuits, but it is only the purposes that are assigned to us from Almighty God that are worth investing one’s life to achieve.

Do you know that there are 31 short chapters in the Book of Proverbs and

a corresponding number of days in most months of the year?

From now on it will be my personal goal to daily post a “gem” of proverbial wisdom

for the day from the proverb of the day on this site.

I suggest you daily join me in reading a chapter in

Proverbs that corresponds with today’s date
